How often, after a stressful day before, does a parent awake – getting ready for the day at work to come – but also needing to worry about providing for the welfare of a young preschool child and an aging parent at home.
Hoping that the grandparent is OK, Mom or Dad struggle to get the child to daycare or preschool, then it’s off to work.
This scenario affects around 15 million Americans. The adults so affected are part of what’s called the Sandwich Generation.
Wisdom to Youth Intergenerational helps alleviate that problem by providing the methodology to establish an intergenerational daycare and preschool.
So, there’s no need for the parents to worry about their child or their child’s grandparent.
Primarily, WTY's race-, ethnicity-, and region-neutral programs focus on assisting Sandwich Generation clients who reside in underserved, low-income neighborhoods.
Operating with tax exemption for donor-supporters and company activities under IRC 501(c)(3), Wisdom to Youth Intergenerational Centers for Development & Support (WTY-ICDS) has developed a set of holistic programs that are designed to significantly diminish the dual problems facing working, Sandwich Generation families. Mainly: How to successfully maintain employment while securely ensuring the well-being of their young children and elderly relatives.
A major goal is allowing these Sandwich-Generation adults to proceed to their jobs – worry free!
WTY-IC plans to implement its programs in partnership with existing public and private community development organizations, especially those that serve indigent communities with child and/or senior care.
The proprietary Wisdom to Youth procedures for converting to or establishing intergenerational operations integrates organization methodology, physical-plant design, and operational programming with pre-existing infrastructure and regulatory requirements. Within this structure we combine child daycare, including prekindergarten tutelage for three- and four-year olds, with daycare for elders under one roof. Within this building, WTY-ICDS licensed facilities will house separate but adjoined constituent parts.
Clients from both populations will blend activities to form a synergy, a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
The child daycare program, including prekindergarten operations, will operate as required by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Throughout the school year there shall be several opportunities for seniors to interrelate on-site with Pre-K children, under the supervision of professional staff, including those from WTY-IC.
In various classroom and non-classroom activities, seniors will collaborate with and mentor children – hence, Wisdom to Youth!
